Biscuit Poppets

Biscuit poppet

Something (or someone) eating you? Fed up of letting your problems eat away at you? Well here’s my solution: Biscuit poppets.

Poppets are an old English folk version of voodoo dolls. The idea is that you write the problem on the biscuit poppet and consume. And hey presto, your problem has vanished.

So instead of your problem eat away at you, you eat away the problem.

The best way of eating these biscuits, is by dunking them in some of liquid (see tea dunking biscuits for another recipe). I’ve included a demonstration video (click on this link for the less distorted version & then click on the 2nd button in the right hand corner to view portrait) for all those who aren’t sure how to dunk biscuits. Smileys Check out Peter Kay’s (one of my favourite English comedians) hilarious explanation on dunking biscuits.

Frenchie cigarettes

This week’s recipe is dedicated to all my fellow sisters out there who are dealing with various forms of boyfriend related problems (Ok, I’m not going to be sexist or politically incorrect, anybody out there with relationship issues you’re included aswell). Personally I think French men (regardless whether they’re 18 or 60) should come with a ‘cigarette packet style’ warning.

P.S. No people were harmed in the eating of these biscuits. Smileys

Biscuit Poppets

200g butter, softened
200g sugar
2 eggs
550g flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla essence

100g icing sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
A couple of tbsp of water

Man/Woman cookie cutter

Makes at least 40 small poppets.

Cream together butter, vanilla essence with sugar until fluffy. Add beaten eggs and sifted flour with baking powder. Bring together to form dough. Wrap dough in cling film and leave to chill for 30mins. Meanwhile preheat oven to 170°c. Flour surface and roll out dough to 4mm thickness. Cut out biscuits. Place on baking paper lined tray. Chill for another 10 minutes. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown, depending on size of biscuits. Leave to cool. Mix together icing sugar, vanilla essence with enough water to make a thick paste. Pipe decoration.
